The cruise in which the Fidelio takes part is a 13-day tour of Ukraine that begins in the Crimean resort city of Yalta. For three days, guests will stay in the fabulous city of Yalta, visiting such attractions as the stately Livadia Palace, the Renaissance-styled imperial summer home where in 1945, Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill met to discuss the post-War division of Europe. After Yalta, guests will be transferred overland to Kherson, the first home port for the Russian Black Sea fleet, established in the time of Catherine the Great. After boarding the ship, passengers will be given a final day tour of cosmopolitan Odessa before the Fidelio lifts anchor. On the river, the ship will stop at Zaporozhye (named for the now-underwater Cossack sich) to see the nearby Khortitsa Island, Dnipropetrovsk (an important city in the Brezhnev era), Kremenchug (an ancient rapids portage and site of a replicated old Ukrainian village), and finally Cherkassy (the heart of Ukraine) before reaching the ship’s destination, Kiev.

One of the fortresses was called Aleksandrovska, and later a town called Aleksandrovsk was founded on its territory. In 1921 the town was renamed into Zaporozhye.

In 1995, the MS Fidelio left the Peters Shipyard in the Dutch port of Kampen. Taking on the name of an opera composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, the ship served for a number of years on the German Rhein and then the Danube before finally finding its way further east to the Dnieper River in Ukraine. The 110-meter (370-foot) Fidelio can hold 148 passengers, housed in 74 modern double occupancy cabins. The large sundeck invites with plenty of lounge chairs for enjoying the passing steppelands. The onboard spa features a sauna, gym, water therapy treatments and a Jacuzzi. However, the panoramic restaurant is uniquely designed among cruise ships that ply the Dnieper River (the cuisine is a mix of international dishes and Ukrainian culinary delights). The bar provides entertainment in the evening, alongside aerobics, and other more family-oriented recreational activities (including lectures to help guests understand more about the countryside they are passing through). The 34 cheerful members of the crew only complements the friendly atmosphere of the ship.
